A Turkish bank account: the invisible but critical step
Every foreign investor looking to buy property, receive rental income, or obtain a Foreign Exchange Purchase Document (DAB) for a citizenship application in Türkiye needs a Turkish bank account.
Before opening an account, you need a tax identification number, which can be obtained free of charge at the tax office with your passport in about 15-30 minutes; the first and most important step in the process.
Banks typically ask for a passport, tax number and a document showing your address in Türkiye (a residence certificate or a utility bill); applying in person at a branch, the process can be completed in about a week on average. We're with you through all of these steps, from choosing the right bank to preparing your appointment and documents.

What to watch for when opening a bank account
- The foreign ID number is issued to those who've resided in Türkiye for at least 6 months; some banks can open accounts without it given extra documentation
- The tax identification number must be obtained before account opening
- A document showing your address in Türkiye (residence certificate, utility bill) may be requested depending on the bank
- The Foreign Exchange Purchase Document (DAB) is separately required for title deed and citizenship processes on property payments
- Some steps (account opening excepted) can be handled from outside Türkiye via a notarized power of attorney
