Modern Greenhouse Investment

Hatay's Mediterranean climate and the fertile soil of the Amik Plain offer favorable ground for modern greenhouses equipped with sensor-based climate control and drip irrigation.

Vegetables growing inside a modern greenhouse

Hatay's mild Mediterranean climate and the fertile farmland of the Amik Plain offer conditions well suited to modern greenhouses, which achieve far higher yields than traditional open-field farming. A greenhouse equipped with technologies like sensor-based climate control and drip irrigation can produce year-round for both the domestic market and export.

What Project Types Are Worth Considering?

  • High-tech vegetable-focused greenhouse (tomato, pepper, cucumber)
  • Cut-flower production greenhouse
  • Certified organic greenhouse production
  • Export-oriented greenhouse complex under contract farming

Which Areas Should You Consider?

The Amik Plain (around Kırıkhan and Reyhanlı), with its fertile soil and broad flat land, is the primary location for greenhouse investment. Erzin and Dörtyol offer a separate option with their mild coastal climate.

Licensing and Permit Process

  • Greenhouse installation permit from the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry
  • Land-use/agricultural-use compliance
  • Certifications required for export (GlobalG.A.P., for example)
  • Water-use rights documentation

Incentives and Support

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry offers grant and low-interest loan support for greenhouse investments; Region 6 incentives can also apply to processing facilities linked to greenhouse operations.

What to Keep in Mind

Energy cost is a significant operating expense for a high-tech greenhouse; solar integration and other energy-cost-reducing solutions are worth evaluating during feasibility.

From the official data

Dam, Irrigation and Flood-Control Investments

In the 2026 Investment Programme, agriculture is the second-largest item with 10 projects and TRY 95.6 billion. Amik-Afrin (Reyhanlı Dam and Irrigation) covers 58,516 ha of irrigation and 480 hm³ of storage.

What does this data mean for an investor?

The four listed irrigation projects together cover 100,028 ha. Amik-Afrin started in 1995 and runs to 2030; TRY 9.9 billion (31%) had been spent by the end of 2025. Water infrastructure is therefore a long-horizon investment whose completion date can slip.

What it means for an investor: growth in irrigable area is a main determinant of water access for farmland and greenhouse investments; whether a given parcel falls inside these project areas should be checked separately in the State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) records. Programme amounts do not guarantee when irrigation will enter service.

Limitation: Irrigation hectares are project scope, not the irrigated area in operation today, and the four-project sum should not be added to current irrigated land because areas may overlap. Amounts are nominal lira.
